Henry C.
Ball enlisted into Co. F, 15th Regiment , Massachusetts Volunteers, on July 12, 1861, at
the age of twenty eight and was given the rank of Corporal by the time of his death, July
3, 1863, at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania he had attained the rank of First Sergeant. His
regiment was on the leftside of the line near the stone wall at the beginning of the
battle, the Fifteenth was under the command of Colonel George H. Ward, they were attached
to General William Harrow's Brigade of General John Gibbon's Second Division of the Second
Corp under General Winfield S. Hancock by the end of the battle they had moved over to the
right to aid in driving back the Confederate troops that had made it over the Stone Wall.
When Henry died that July afternoon he left behind a wife Harriet, and two young children
Emma age 7 and Minnie age 4 and so ends the life of First Sergeant Henry C. Ball, but not
so fast below you will see possibly the last two remaining items of the Sergeant.
